Parcours dans les musées

Herman Diephuis chose to shift the methods of representation, by suggesting projects in situ in museums, in rapport with the museum’s collection.

He conducted an initial experiment in 2006 in a museum in Aberdeen, Scotland as part of a workshop and since then, has put a significant number of projects into place in museums as well as outdoor venues : at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Reims in May 2007 and in May 2008, as part of  “la Nuit des Musées” (2000 visitors), at the « Musée Fabre » in Montpellier, as part of a special edition suggested by Montpellier CCN and at the “Musée Malraux” in Le Havre in April 2008, at the “Musée d’Art et d’Histoire” in Rochefort in October 2009 and in May 2011 at the André Malraux Museum of Modern Art in Le Havre, in collaboration with Le Havre CCN.

These pathways in museums play with the off-centering and the discrepancy and offer a free view of the paintings selected from the museum’s collection, blending into the architecture of the place. An approach to paintings which has fun seeing how the images can personify, by creating a distance from contextual references and escaping from a desire for a re-enactment and offering the possibility of a different interpretation of the works. The circuit can equally take place in the street, by confronting the images to the unexpected outside, where urban space becomes the frame.

For these propositions, Herman Diephuis involves the company’s performers and a group of amateurs, put together on location. This experience is a moment for encounters and discussions, experienced like a concentrated creative process.
