Impressions was created in 2013 as part of the exhibition “La couleur réfléchie” at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Rouen then repeated in 2014 at the Théâtre La Parenthèse in Avignon as part of “La belle scène Saint-Denis”, in June 2017 at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Caen as part of the exhibition “L'attention au réel” and in march 2018 as part of the performance created for the festival Ardanthé, Plus ou moins 20 pour commencer (doucement).
This solo performed by Mélanie Giffard tackles current notions of impressionism like the fugitive, the uncertain, the unstable, the question of perception and subjectivity in the onlooker’s gaze.
The choreography is inspired by the representation of the human body in 19th century paintings from the museum’s collection, to incarnate the passage from the academic to the search for an ideal beauty, of an eternal essence towards the human body deconsecrated impressionnism, in the truthfulness of the moment.
